Tadhi Alawi is a Tanzanian entrepreneur and multidisciplinary artist, working as a movement researcher, curator, filmmaker, performer, and choreographer. He is the co-founder and creative director of Nantea Dance Company, based in Dar es Salaam, known for creating visually striking performances inspired by Tanzanian social life, colonial histories, and the dynamics of a rapidly changing world. 

 

Tadhi currently co-curates Kiota Cha Dansi, a dance platform in Dar es Salaam developed in collaboration with Goethe-Institut inTanzania and Nantea Dance Company to foster exchange and development within the performance dance scene. In 2024, he was appointed curator of the Dance Platform Project at the Haba na Haba International Dance Festival, bringing together 15 performing artists from across Sub-Saharan Africa in partnership with Goethe-Institute regional Office in Johannesburg.

 

In 2022 he won a grant award as one of the 100 professional Artists from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe (non-EU countries) who have received the grant organised by artlink.ch in partnership with the Sudkulturefond. His dance films have received international recognition, including a feature on BBC News (2020), and he was awarded Best Interface with the Public at the Dare to Dance in Public Film Festival (2020). With extensive international experience performing, teaching, and choreographing across Africa, Asia, Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. Since 2016 after graduating three years Diploma of dance at the MUDA Africa dance school Tadhi Alawi continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of dance, captivating audiences with his unique vision and storytelling through movement.
